Tasted - Berlucchi 'Freccianera' Brut 2012, Franciacorta

The selection of Italian sparklers on UK shelves is (in my opinion) a bit thin. The lovely wines of Trento are difficult to find, and it's quite tricky to buy good Franciacorta, even in good independent wine shops. The biodynamic producer 1701 impressed me at the RAW Wine Fair last year, and I'll be searching out a few more of these bottles. When it comes to Trento DOC, online specialist retailers are really the only way to go. Come on importers - we want more (and better) Italian bubbles!

Tasted - Berlucchi 'Freccianera' Brut 2012

60% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Bianco, 10% Pinot Nero. Ripe, slightly pithy mandarin and candied grapefruit with sweet peach, pear and quince. Some sweet creaminess on the nose. Quite straightforward - not much backbone or length here, with slightly phenolic character coming through on the palate and introducing a little harshness. Some toast. Attractive. 85/100
